STEP BY STEP
HOW TO KEEP YOUR CONTACTS HEALTHY
Cleanliness is Key:
-
- Always wash your hands thoroughly with a mild, fragrance-free soap and water before handling your RGP lenses.
- Use lint-free towels or tissues to dry your hands to avoid any lint or residue transferring onto the lenses.
- Avoid using products containing oil, lotion, or moisturizer on your hands or face before handling the lenses, as they can leave a residue on the lens surface.
Lens Insertion and Removal:
-
- Start by inspecting your RGP lenses for any debris, scratches, or damages before inserting or removing them.
- Fill your lens case with fresh multipurpose solution recommended by your eye care professional.
- To insert the lenses, place them on your index finger and hold your eyelids open with your other hand’s fingers. Gently position the lens on your eye, focusing on the center.
- To remove the lenses, wash your hands thoroughly, hold your eyelids open, and gently slide the lens down onto the lower white part of your eye. Pinch the lens and lift it off.
Cleaning and Disinfection:
-
- Remove your lenses from your eyes and place them in the palm of your hand.
- Apply a few drops of the recommended multipurpose solution onto each lens.
- Rub the lens gently with your fingertip in a circular motion for about 20 seconds. This helps remove debris and protein deposits.
- Rinse the lenses thoroughly with the solution to remove any loosened debris or cleaning solution residue.
- Place the lenses in your clean lens case and fill it with fresh solution. Let them soak for the recommended time specified by your eye care professional.
Lens Case Care:
-
- Rinse your lens case with fresh solution after each use, and air dry it upside down on a clean tissue or lint-free towel.
- Replace your lens case regularly, ideally every three months, to prevent bacterial growth and contamination.
- Keep your lens case away from the bathroom, as the humidity can promote bacterial growth.
Handling in Unfavorable Situations:
-
- Avoid wearing your RGP lenses when swimming, using hot tubs, or coming into contact with water, as it may introduce harmful bacteria and increase the risk of eye infections.
- If you accidentally get makeup or other cosmetic products on your lenses, remove and clean them immediately. Avoid using hairspray or other aerosol products while wearing lenses.
Regular Eye Exams:
-
- Schedule regular eye exams with your eye care professional to ensure the health of your eyes and the optimal fit of your RGP lenses.
- Follow their recommendations for cleaning solutions, lens replacements, and wearing schedules.
